The time it takes to restore a damaged or lost tooth can sometimes reach several months. It is clear that few people can feel comfortable, because the absence of a tooth not only complicates chewing food, but also makes a smile unattractive. Temporary dentures will help to cope with this problem.

What are temporary dentures?

Temporary dentures are a medical device that allows you to ease the pain during treatment or complete replacement of a tooth. The main reason for the installation of a temporary denture is to get rid of discomfort while the dental technician is engaged in the manufacture of a permanent prosthetic part. As a rule, not all clinics are ready to provide the final design in a few days. The period of taking impressions, the work of a dental laboratory, as well as fitting can stretch for several months. Walking with a hole or a prepared tooth is not to everyone's liking, especially if it is visible to others. Chewing problems can also occur - this should not be overlooked. Often the patient's speech also worsens, and this is unacceptable for people who are often in public.

Why is this needed?

The advantages of a temporary denture are not only to eliminate aesthetic imperfections during treatment. The huge advantage of this design is that it allows you to protect the tooth turned by dentists for treatment from food debris and your own saliva. Do not forget that temporary dentures allow the patient to feel what a real device will be like. This is very important so that he can get used to the prosthesis (even if a temporary device causes dislike and rejection, dentists, as a rule, think about changing the treatment paradigm).

Types of structures

Temporary dentures can be of various types. It is impossible to recommend unequivocally which of them is suitable for a particular patient, because only the attending physician who is familiar with the history of the disease and treatment can decide this. Temporary dentures are distinguished by whether they can be removed.

  • Immediate prostheses , which are of a removable type, are made of anti-allergenic plastic, which is connected to adjacent teeth. Special side nylon mounts help them with this. Modern medical materials make it possible to create a temporary denture that will be indistinguishable from a real tooth. The dentist achieves an anatomical and color combination with adjacent teeth, which makes it possible to make a smile aesthetically beautiful.
  • Fixed temporary dentures are a kind of motor-shaped structures that are attached to the turned teeth. It will not be possible to remove them without the help of a specialist, because the device is fixed with special crowns. These temporary prostheses allow you to protect your teeth from environmental influences and possible damage, prepare the enamel and gums for the permanent wearing of implants. Fixed devices allow you to give the implant time to heal, which is absolutely impossible to do with a metal or ceramic crown.

Temporary dentures, which are made of lightweight plastic, are great for creating favorable conditions for the implantation of a permanent implant.

Manufacturing process

The process of manufacturing a temporary denture in modern clinics reaches 4 hours. First of all, an impression is taken from the extracted or treated tooth. This is a necessary condition for the future temporary denture to be an optimal copy of the tooth. Then, in the laboratory, the structure itself is made with its fasteners. The product is tried on, after which, if necessary, it is subjected to correction. After that, the attending physician gives recommendations about proper oral hygiene while wearing, the rules for caring for the structure.

There are contraindications that do not allow the installation of temporary dentures. These include poor oral hygiene and the inflammatory process of soft tissues at the site of future prosthetics.

addictive

The time it takes to get used to temporary dentures depends on the individual characteristics of the body. Most often it is several hours, however, there were cases when the patient could not come to terms with the presence of an additional structure in the mouth. Pain while wearing temporary dentures does not occur (the only exception may be cases when the patient has inflammatory processes on the gums, as well as when installing a fixed prosthesis by an inexperienced specialist).

With the feeling of having a foreign body in the mouth, dentists recommend coping with massage: with your index finger and thumb, pinch the area near the tooth and massage it. There are cases when, after the installation of a temporary denture, an increase or decrease in salivation was observed. As a rule, this is a sign of a poor-quality installation.

Care

Do not think that artificial temporary dentures will not require careful maintenance. The design also, like real teeth, accumulates plaque from food and drinks, can change the surface if the wrong paste and brush are chosen.

Temporary dentures have several problem areas. One of them is the place where the tooth and gum meet. It must be cleaned thoroughly, but gently, rinsing with herbs or special products is welcome. The lower part of the denture is also prone to plaque accumulation (it should be cleaned with a soft brush at a 45 degree angle).

As for removable temporary dentures, after removing them from the mouth, they should be placed in a special disinfectant solution. This is necessary so that during the subsequent installation, microbes and dirt are not introduced into the body. The solution must be changed after each use. In professional dentistry, you can find special cleansing tablets that are diluted in water (they help no worse than ready-made solutions, but are cheaper).
