Restoration of teeth with composite veneers every day .

Based on the name, you can guess that composite veneers are made from composite materials, as well as metal-free ceramics.

As a rule, ceramic veneers are used in cases where the restoration of dental tissues using photopolymers or whitening does not bring the expected effect. With the help of composite veneers, the dentist can quickly eliminate even the most serious defects in the dentition.

Composite veneers can be straight or veneer-ceramic onlays. In the first case, veneers are used to restore the light-curing filling material. Such veneers are also called therapeutic. Their distinctive feature is that they are made directly in the patient's oral cavity.

Ceramic onlays are used to veneer the front of the teeth for indirect restoration. Such veneers are not used for the treatment and restoration of teeth. Their main goal is to create an aesthetic effect.

Indications for the use of composite veneers

As a rule, veneers made of composite materials are used in the following cases:

  • to correct irregularities of the tooth surface;
  • in order to treat large cracks in tooth enamel;
  • to reduce the distance between the incisors;
  • for instant teeth whitening, if other methods of enamel lightening did not bring the desired results;
  • pathology of the shape of the teeth;
  • stains on tooth enamel caused by excess fluoride in the water that the patient consumes;
  • pathological abrasion of teeth, thin enamel;
  • the presence of erosive lesions on the enamel.

The use of composite veneers is highly undesirable for:

  • malocclusion;
  • bruxism, the habit of biting nail plates or, for example, biting off threads;
  • extensive carious lesions of the teeth;
  • treatment of the oral cavity with drugs of some groups;
  • pathological tooth mobility or bleeding gums;
  • in the absence of too many chewing teeth (about 7 or more).

For the fastest possible solution to aesthetic problems associated with teeth, it is better to use conventional ceramic veneers.

Stages of restoration of teeth with veneers

Restoration of dental tissues using composite veneers is carried out according to the following scheme:

  1. the doctor examines the oral cavity, assesses the condition of the patient's teeth, identifies possible contraindications and prescribes a treatment regimen;
  2. the specialist selects the shade of the filling material according to a special scale;
  3. the tooth surface is slightly worn down (no more than 0.3-0.5);
  4. A composite material is attached to the prepared tooth surface, which is subsequently polished.

Features of composite veneers

To prepare composite veneers, specialists can use a variety of materials:

  • With large particles of the composite . This type of veneers is used for the restoration of chewing teeth. This is due to the fact that such veneers are the most durable, but if not properly cared for, they can quickly turn yellow and are quite difficult to polish.
  • With fillers up to 2 microns . Such veneers have high aesthetic qualities and at the same time are highly durable. Therefore, they are most often used on teeth that are visible when smiling;
  • Photopolymer . These veneers are very easy to match the natural color of the teeth, so they are very popular.
  • Microhybrid . This type of veneers contains glass microparticles. For this reason, they are exceptionally durable. However, they are not used to build up the crown of the tooth.

As you know, there are two types of composite veneers : direct and indirect. In the first case, they can be glued immediately, at the first visit to the dentist. It takes time to install indirect veneers. Since at the first visit, the dentist must make a cast of the patient's teeth and send it to the laboratory for manufacturing. Only after this is the preparation of the teeth and their restoration.

The cost of indirect composite veneers largely depends on what material will be used in their manufacture.

There are several popular brands of composite veneers:

  • ComponeerTM Set upper. This is a brand of false veneers, which are made using modern technologies from super-strong material. Their thickness is about 0.3 mm and they are securely attached to the tooth enamel.
  • Filtek Ultimate is a versatile composite veneer brand. They are distinguished by a huge selection of shades, they lend themselves well to polishing.
  • Estilite Sigma Quick - the brand has 20 shades of veneers available, which are characterized by shine, elasticity and also lend themselves well to polishing. These veneers are very easy to install in the oral cavity.
  • Charisma is a modern light-curing brand, which, unfortunately, has only a few shades of enamel. However, its composition contains glass microparticles, which gives this veneer a special strength.
  • Gradia Direct - the latest veneers that allow for multi-layer restoration of teeth. Thanks to a huge selection of shades, the dentist can create the effect of the most natural smile;
  • Spectrum is a radiopaque veneer, which consists of the smallest particles. Due to this, it is very securely attached to the tooth enamel;
  • VersaCOMP is a higher quality analogue of Spectrum.
  • Valux Plus is a universal veneer, which is most often used for the restoration of incisors, as well as chewing teeth.

Advantages and disadvantages of composite veneers

Among the main advantages of composite veneers, physicians distinguish the following:

  • Maximum preservation of the thickness of the tooth enamel , since when installing these veneers, only the surface layer of the tooth is turned;
  • Low duration of treatment , which also does not require much effort from the patient. Composite veneers can be installed in one trip to the dentist. Before this, you do not need to make casts, make veneers, etc.;
  • The most natural look . The specialist can specifically select veneers that will best suit the natural shade of the teeth, so the restoration of other teeth with this method is not required;
  • Ease of use . When wearing composite veneers, the patient does not feel the presence of a foreign object in the oral cavity, as this, for example, happens when using crowns.

And the most important advantage of composite veneers can be considered a fairly low cost, despite the fact that the period of their use can be quite long.

However, like any other method, the treatment of dental restoration with composite veneers also has some disadvantages :

  • Such veneers very quickly lose their original appearance, begin to turn yellow and fade. Therefore, in order to maintain a beautiful smile, patients need to give up red wine, coffee, tea, cigarettes, as well as any food with bright dyes;
  • Composite veneers are quite difficult to polish;
  • Low strength, especially in comparison with ceramics. Cracks and chips often form on composite veneers, in addition, they are quickly erased.

When choosing veneers, the patient must also take into account the fact that the treatment includes not only the cost of the material, but also the work of the dentist.
