In the absence of a large number of teeth, the dentist can offer the patient several types of prosthetics. Modern dentistry can solve any problems associated with dental health and the patient will not feel the slightest discomfort.

All orthopedic dental structures today are made only from high quality materials. Therefore, after installing the prosthesis, the smile looks very natural and harmonious. Sometimes artificial teeth cannot be distinguished from natural ones.

Preparation for prosthetics

As a rule, the dentist appoints the patient to carry out dental prosthetics only if the problem cannot be solved using any other methods.

To perform prosthetics, the following conditions must be met:

  • the patient must observe oral hygiene;
  • the patient should not have any diseases of the oral cavity;
  • the patient should not have drug or alcohol addiction;
  • in case of bone deficiency, before prosthetics, it should be built up;
  • after the removal of the last tooth, at least 2 weeks must pass;
  • in the absence of teeth in a pregnant patient or a woman during lactation, prosthetics are carried out only at the end of this period;
  • in case of severe diseases of any organs or organ systems, a consultation of a specialist of the appropriate profile should be carried out beforehand.

Fixed dentures

One of the solutions to replace natural teeth can be the use of fixed dentures. So fixed bridges can replace several lost teeth, provided that they were located nearby.

As a rule, such structures are made of plastic, ceramics and cermets. To install this design, the doctor grinds the extreme teeth, on which the prosthesis will subsequently be put on. In more rare cases, the design is fixed in the oral cavity using plates or glue.

Bridges can be worn for 5-7 years, after which they need to be replaced. Note! The more teeth a denture replaces, the more often it will have to be changed.

The price of bridges can vary greatly depending on the material from which they are made. So, ceramic-metal structures are the cheapest, while ceramic ones can be several times more expensive. It should be noted that plastic structures are used extremely rarely, mainly to replace lost front teeth. If they are installed in place of chewing teeth, they will break very quickly. Metal-ceramic restorations are ideal for patients with congenital anomalies of the anatomy of the teeth.

Bridges also have disadvantages, among which are:

  • bleeding gums;
  • exposure of the neck of the teeth, which act as an attachment;
  • getting food debris under the prosthesis.

As a rule, such "side effects" occur if the structure has become excessively mobile.

If the patient nevertheless decided to install bridges, then the best choice in this case would be to install a prosthesis made of zirconium oxide. They have the most natural look. In whatever room, with whatever lighting the patient is, his teeth cannot be distinguished from natural ones. The indisputable advantages of such prostheses include their hypoallergenicity and, importantly, all the advantages of these wonderful prostheses do not affect their cost at all. Zirconium oxide tends to adhere very tightly to the gums, as a result of which the patient will be able to avoid all those unpleasant moments that await him when installing any other bridges. Such structures, with proper care for them, can last about 20 years and at the same time absolutely not lose their aesthetic appearance. It is important to note that the material of which the prosthesis consists has antibacterial properties, due to which the risk of oral diseases and the development of caries on healthy teeth will decrease several times. When installing such prostheses, healthy teeth and soft tissues of the oral cavity are absolutely not injured.

In addition to bridges, fixed dentures are not used to replace a large number of teeth.

In the absence of a significant number of teeth, dentists most often use removable dentures. The choice of design in this case depends on the material from which the prosthesis is made and its inherent properties.

Acrylic dentures

To replace a large number of teeth, dentists often use removable or partially removable nylon dentures. In the first case, the prosthesis consists of an acrylic base that looks like a gum and artificial teeth attached to it. Full acrylic prosthesis can be used in the absence of a large number of teeth in both the upper and lower jaws. Such prostheses are attached by ordinary suction to the gums without the use of any additional fasteners.

The service life of such prostheses is at least 5 years . The main advantages of acrylic structures include their relatively low cost. The advantages of this type of structures can also be attributed to their light weight, so that they do not have a negative impact on the abutment teeth. These dentures are very easy to care for and easy to use.

However, this type of prosthetics has significant drawbacks . So, due to the hardness of the material, the patient's gums can be severely damaged, which can lead to the fact that after a few weeks of wearing the prosthesis, the oral cavity turns into a continuous wound. In addition, acrylic often causes allergies, especially in people prone to allergic reactions.

A complete prosthesis, installed on the upper jaw, completely covers the palate. As a result, wearing the structure can cause significant discomfort. Acrylic dentures very quickly absorb odors that cannot be removed in any way. As a result, the patient may develop an aversion to dentures.

Incomplete acrylic dentures can crush the supporting teeth, which will lead to a very strong load on the latter. Acrylic has an unnatural look , so the use of the structure will be noticeable to others. These prostheses very quickly lead to atrophy of the jaw bone tissue. Acrylic structures often fall out during conversations, which causes a violation of diction.

Byugel

A clasp is a prosthesis that consists of a plastic base that imitates the gums, artificial teeth and metal fasteners.

Such designs are very convenient to use. The discomfort that they can cause will not be strong at all and will disappear a maximum of a couple of days after wearing. They do not cover the palate during prosthetics of the upper teeth and do not interfere with the movements of the tongue during prosthetics of the lower ones. During chewing, the entire load on the teeth and gums is distributed evenly, which eliminates the risk of developing certain diseases of the hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity. Thanks to a wide variety of fasteners, the design looks very natural. Such prostheses can be used if a person suffers from bruxism or abnormal bleeding of the gums. Byugels differ in the long term of operation. With careful attitude - up to 7 years .

The disadvantages of this method of prosthetics include the high cost and the inability to use in the absence of teeth (there will be nothing to fix the structure).

Nylon prostheses

Nylon is a very flexible and soft man-made material. It never causes allergic reactions. At the moment, nylon prostheses are used much more often than acrylic ones.

The patient adapts to such prostheses very quickly and easily, since the softness of the material makes them incredibly comfortable to wear. To install such prostheses, grinding of the teeth to which the structure will be attached is not required. Such prostheses do not put pressure on the gums, do not create a large load on the supporting teeth and do not have a negative effect on the enamel.

Due to the dense structure, nylon prostheses do not have the ability to absorb odors. Such designs cannot be distinguished from natural teeth .

However, this type of prosthetics also has some disadvantages. So they can create a strong load on areas where teeth are missing. Flexible and soft nylon cannot resist and it is up to the human gums to do this. This leads to the fact that the gums begin to hurt, bone tissue is destroyed. Nylon is very poorly cleaned, as a result of which, after prolonged wear, dentures on the front teeth will look like no one cleans them.

At a high cost, such prostheses do not have a long service life (only 2-3 years). If a nylon denture has been fitted to replace a large number of teeth, it will wear out quickly and will need to be replaced frequently.

The use of implants in the absence of a large number of teeth

This method of replacing teeth has been used not so long ago as the others and is considered the most modern. Such implants may be removable, partially removable, or not removable at all. Implantation is quite often used even to replace all teeth.

As a basis, dentists usually use a titanium rod, on which an artificial tooth is then placed. Such implants can be combined with clasp, nylon or acrylic prostheses. The number of implants in this case does not always have to correspond to the number of missing teeth, but there should be a sufficient number of them to hold the prostheses.

This method of replacing missing teeth has a huge number of advantages . For example, since natural teeth are not needed to secure the implant in the oral cavity, their grinding is not carried out.

Due to their secure fixation, the implants never fall out like nylon or acrylic prostheses. With the help of implants, the dentist can replace any number of teeth both in the front and in the back; both on the upper and lower jaw.

The patient's taste sensations are preserved as much as possible, since the gums and palate remain open during implantation.

When using implants, the jaw bone tissue does not wear down in the same way as when using, for example, acrylic or nylon prostheses. These implants are indistinguishable from natural teeth. With careful wearing, implants can serve for quite a long time - sometimes up to 25 years. In case of any breakage, it is possible to replace only part of the implant without touching the rest of the prostheses or implants.

However, this method of tooth replacement, like the others, also has some disadvantages.

Thus, the installation of such implants is very traumatic, often causing bleeding, swelling and inflammation of the gums, sometimes it can be complicated by infection. In some patients, rejection of the artificial material by the body may occur .

In addition, artificial teeth can increase the sensitivity of natural ones. If the doctor touches the nerves during implant placement, the patient may experience paralysis of some facial muscles.

Such implants are strictly not recommended for patients who already have implants installed in their bodies, as well as for those who suffer from impaired glucose tolerance, increased leaching of minerals from bone tissue, patients with tuberculosis and osteoporosis.

Such implants are expensive, as a result of which not every patient can afford their installation.

As you can see, any type of prosthetics has its advantages and disadvantages. However, there is some regularity in this. So, usually the better the implant, the higher its cost. However, if you consider that cheap implants need to be changed very often, then it is probably better to spend money once on a high-quality design that will last a long time.
